Measurement of Orbitally Excited D-Mesons at CDF II

Results of the first measurement of P orbitally excited neutral D-meson states, D 2 and D 1, produced in hadron collisions at the Tevatron are presented. Using data from the displaced track trigger, CDF II collects a large sample of these states in decay modes D π−, D π−. Masses and widths of both states have been measured with precision better than or comparable to that of the world average.

Production of excited charmed mesons at LEP
Studies of the production of orbitally excited charmed and charmed strange mesons in eecollisions, performed by the LEP collaborations are reviewed. Measurements of the production rates of orbitally excited charmed mesons in semileptonic b decays are presented. Searches for charmed meson radial excitations are also briefly discussed.

We report on two spectroscopy results from CDF. First, we observe the orbitally excited B∗∗ mesons in B → lDX events. We find 28 ± 6 ± 3% of light B mesons produced are B∗∗ states. A collective mass fit results in a B1 mass of 5.71± 0.02 GeV/c. Secondly, we observe 20.4 −5.5 decays of B + c →J/ψl X , with a 6.40±0.39±0.13GeV/c mass and 0.46 −0.16 ± 0.03 ps lifetime. We present results for the hybrid meson spectrum produced by gluonic excitations in full QCD using Wilson fermions. For the spin-exotic mesons with J P C = 1 −+ , 0 +− , and 2 +− we find the lightest state to be 1 −+ with a mass of 1.9(2) GeV. Results obtained for orbitally excited mesons are also presented.
